Walk to End Alzheimer’s

The 2016 Walk to End Alzheimer’s, for the Middle Peninsula/Northern Neck region, will be Saturday, October 8th at the BethPage Camp-Resort (679 Brown’s Lane in Urbanna)! Registration begins at 8:30 am, the ceremony will take place at 9:30 am and the walk begins at 10:00 am.

Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. All funds raised through Walk to End Alzheimer’s further the efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization.

NAMI Family-to-Family Classes

FREE Family-to-Family Classes will begin September 28th! Family-to-Family consists of 12 classes for persons who care for or are related to individuals affected with Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression, Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Panic Disorder, Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder, Co-occuring Brain Disorders and Addictive Disorders, Post Traumatic stress Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder.

Classes are structures to help family members understand and provide support while maintaining their own well being. Classes will be held at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. Be sure to register by calling 804-684-1480 or emailing namimidtidewater@gmail.com!

Lions Club Yard Sale

On Saturday, September 24th, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm, the Gloucester Lions Club will be hosting a yard sale located at Phillips Energy (2586 George Washington Memorial Highway) in Gloucester Point. Proceeds go towards helping those in our community with limited resources who are in need of vision screenings, eyeglasses, hearing aids, and vision or hearing related procedures. Brooms will also be available for purchase!

Please also consider dropping off your no longer needed eyeglasses and hearing aids on Saturday, and the Lions Club will be accepting donations of items to be sold at the yard sale. Come meet your local Lions, and see what your Lions Club has to offer!

Boys and Girls Club of Gloucester – Seafood Blast Cornhole & Vendor Expo

The Boys and Girls Club provides boys and girls with a safe place to learn and grow, foster ongoing relationships with caring adult professionals, and offer life-enhancing programs and character development experiences.

This Saturday, September 10, 2016, the Boys and Girls Club of Gloucester will host Seafood Blast Cornhole and Vendor Expo from Noon – 7:00 p.m. at Gloucester Moose Lodge. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for kids and includes a single heaping plate of delicious fresh catch seafood! Vendor registrations are ongoing.

RCC Volunteer Fair

Rappahannock Community College will be hosting a Volunteer Fair on the 9th of September at their Glenns campus (12745 College Drive, Glenns, VA 23149). Volunteering can give caring individuals a chance to develop new skills, meet new friends, and engage in new opportunities!
