Salvation Army Bell Ringers

15135863_1788098144783450_3260007043201954746_nThe Salvation Army is looking for volunteers bell ringers! They need volunteers through December 24th, for two hour shifts between 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (10:00 AM – 2:00 PM on Christmas Eve). No previous experience is needed, and all funds collected stay to help families here in Gloucester!

They will be ringing the Bell at the York River Crossing ABC, Walmart, and Gloucester Pharmacy. For more information, please contact The Salvation Army office at 804-642-3960. Also, download their flyer here!

Bridges Out of Poverty Presentation

51rR2Wa9POL._SX344_BO1,204,203,200_.jpgAt our next GRC meeting, December 7th at 9:30 AM at the Gloucester Main Street Library, Cathy Pemberton, from the Powhatan Department of Social Services, will be providing a presentation on “Bridges out of Poverty.”

This presentation addresses the dynamics that cause and maintain poverty from the individual to the systemic level. “Bridges Out of Poverty” uses the lens of economic class and provides concrete tools and strategies for a community to prevent, reduce, and alleviate poverty.

YMCA Jingle Bell Jam Aerobathon

The Jingle Bell Jam Aerobathon is part of Gloucester Family YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign. Since opening in February 2016, the YMCA, a non-profit charity, have given out over $36,000 worth of financial scholarships. These scholarships go to those in need and YMCA programs, as well as children who wish to attend summer camp, swim lessons, and other activities who otherwise would not be able to afford it.
 
This fundraiser will take place at the Gloucester Family YMCA on December 2nd from 6:00pm- 9:00pm. Donations can be made in person the day of the event, or online at http://www.peninsulaymca.org/give-online/ (be sure to select Gloucester YMCA Annual Campaign for campaign affiliation!)

6th Annual Riverside Tree of Lights Gala

The 6th Annual Riverside Tree of Lights Gala, taking place this Saturday, November 19th, from 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm at the Abingdon Ruritan Club, will include an evening of cocktails, dinner, dancing, live auction and raffles with entertainment by Good Shot Judy! Cocktail attire.

Proceeds will benefit the Riverside Walter Reed Hospital Make a Difference Fund! Contributions support services and programs to enhance and improve the care experience and fulfill unmet needs for Riverside patients on the Middle Peninsula. $75 per person or $450 for a table of 8.
