GUEST Immediate Volunteer & Donation Needs, and New Volunteer Training

The GUEST night shelter will be open at Abingdon Episcopal Church from January 23 – 30, 2017 and at Gloucester Point Baptist Church from January 30 – February 6, 2017 and they are in need of volunteers! New volunteers can be trained THIS Sunday, January 29, from 4:00 – 5:00 pm at Providence Baptist Church.

GUEST has received $8,000 in local grants this year through the Gloucester Community Foundation and J. Edwin Treakle Foundation. However, the operations of the day shelter and night shelter cost approximately $30,000 each year. GUEST is seeking donations to assist in the operating expenses for this upcoming year. If you, your church or organization would like to make a donation, please mail to GUEST, P.O. Box 743, Hayes, VA 23072.

Reality Store at Peasley Middle School

Virginia Cooperative Extension is currently in need of additional volunteers for their Reality Store youth financial education simulation at Peasley Middle School on February 1, 2017.

Volunteers are needed at the stations that represent household expenses to help students understand those expenses. Available blocks are from 7:40 – 9:10 a.m. (please arrive around 7:20), 9:13 – 10:00 a.m. and 11:19-1:19 p.m. (lunch provided during this block) or if you can do all three, great!
